October Showers Bring Lots of Food

Whew! What a month it has been. October is usually my favorite month of the year, and this month hasn’t been bad necessarily, just busy. So busy that I feel like I haven’t had a moment to stop and enjoy the October-ness of it all. Between work, moving (tomorrow, FINALLY!), marathon training and catering Eileen’s bridal shower, it has been a whirlwind of a past couple weeks. But enough of my huffing and puffing and back to why you’re really here: food.

Hummus & Pita Chips

So yes, in my last blog post, which was ages ago, you might remember me mentioning that I would be catering Eileen’s bridal shower this month. A party of 30 people was the biggest group I’ve cooked for before, so I knew it would take a lot of planning and work. It sure did, but it was totally worth it.

Though the planning started as early as this summer with menu planning, the real work didn’t kick in until last Sunday. First stop: Trader Joe’s where I left with a cart overflowing with baguettes, brie, and lots more. Every single shelf, surface, nook and cranny in my little apartment quickly filled up with food.

Being the type A freak that I am, I wrote out a plan of what I would need to do each day. Make pita chips, hummus and cucumber yogurt dip on Wednesday; chop veggies and toast crostini on Thursday; etc. Sounds crazy, but having the detailed plan kept me on schedule throughout the entire process.

Come the big day, I only had a few last minute assembly tasks to do, which definitely helped to calm my nerves. And a big thanks to my trusty sous chef, Kevin, who put his city planning skills to work in helping me figure out how to lay out each of the dishes while setting up beforehand.

The party itself went by so smoothly, I kind of can’t believe it. Thanks to my Italian genes, I had WAY more food than needed (I was totally paranoid about running out of food), so this will definitely be something to learn from and work on in the future, but much better that than the opposite situation!

Caprese Pasta Salad

Lastly, I want to give a shout out to Allie, Eileen and their whole family. Thank you guys so much for giving me the amazing opportunity! Couldn’t have asked for better clients :) And congratulations, Eileen!
